ABOUT THIS CARD

Alakazam is a rare holo Pokemon card from Pokemon Base Set, card 1 of 102, released January 9, 1999 in the Base series. The illustration is by Ken Sugimori.

Alakazam is card number 1 of the set that started the English game. Damage Swap enabled an infamous early stall archetype with Chansey, moving damage counters around to blank the opponent's progress. Its position as #1/102 gives it outsized checklist significance for set collectors.

VALUE

What is Alakazam #1 from Base Set worth?

Two different numbers answer this, and they are not interchangeable. Raw/ungraded: a loose, ungraded copy of Alakazam #1 (Base Set) carries a market reference of $69.36 USD for the holofoil printing (TCGplayer market price, as of 2026-09-11). Graded slabs: a graded example is priced per grading company and per grade and can sit far above that raw figure - one documented public sale is on file for this card, $43200.00 for a PSA 10 on 2026-09-06, listed with its source below. Both are references, not offers. The graded copy in our machine carries a Rip Station estimated slab value of $154.50 (PSA 8).
