Worlds opens Friday
The 2026 Pokemon World Championships run August 28 to 30 in San Francisco. Swiss rounds and the open fan festival, PokemonXP, are at the Moscone Center, and the Sunday finals move to the Chase Center. The opening ceremony is Friday at 9 a.m. Pacific. Pokemon TCG Live's Worlds celebration, which started August 6, runs through September 3 with a Learning Lab, Gym Leader Challenge and Build & Battle events, Worlds-themed cosmetics, and Twitch drops during the championship broadcast and the PokemonXP card game panel. Worlds weekend has historically been a strong week for sealed product and for the singles in the winning decks, and this year it shares a date with two tin releases.
Team Rocket's Ambition, Wednesday
Pokemon TCG Pocket's next themed booster, Team Rocket's Ambition, releases Wednesday, August 26 at 6 p.m. Pacific: 110 cards (72 main, 38 secret), Giovanni's Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres ex, and a new "Owner" card type. Pocket's sets have become reliable demand signals for the paper cards they feature. The 2000 Team Rocket set is one of the twelve in our vintage basket, and it has been flat for three weeks; a Pocket spotlight is the kind of thing that changes that.
Two tin lines on August 28
Friday brings two separate tin products. The Mega Forces tin lets the buyer choose one foil promo from Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Darkrai ex or Mega Zeraora ex, with four booster packs and a TCG Live code. The Ascended Heroes tins, at $21.99 each, carry a Mega Feraligatr ex, Mega Meganium ex or Mega Emboar ex promo with four Ascended Heroes packs, and were announced in June specifically because the January set "sold out so often at every drop." Reprint supply arriving for a set is the cleanest explanation for its singles softening in advance, and Ascended Heroes has now fallen in four consecutive Index readings.
The Chubu No. 1 Trainer
The No. 1 Trainer promos were awarded to the regional winners of Japan's World Challenge Summer 2000 tournaments. The Chubu region's copy, in PSA 9, sold for $168,000 in the August 22 Fanatics weekly auction, and it is the only example PSA has ever graded. Regional trophy promos are one tier below the Illustrator and the Snap cards in the trophy hierarchy, and this month's results, with the Snap Koffing at $180,000 and the Fan Club Eevee at $90,000 in the same auction, show the top-end money moving down that hierarchy a rung at a time.
