This reading is August 27 against August 20.
- Vintage basket: +0.3% (median of 113 cards; 51 up, 39 flat, 23 down)
- Modern basket: -0.4% (median of 112 cards; 41 up, 16 flat, 55 down)
How the index is built
Each basket takes twelve active sets and, within each, the ten most-traded cards. Vintage means 1999 to 2007 plus the promo series; modern means 2016 onward. Every card is priced by Rip Station's own engine from public comps, separately for every grader-and-grade lane. A card's weekly change is the average across its lanes; a set's reading is the median of its cards; the basket headline is the median of all cards. A flat reading means "no news," not "no demand."

Reading the week
Vintage has now posted five positive weeks in a row, each between 0.2 and 0.4 percent. The leaders rotate (EX Unseen Forces, then Holon Phantoms, now Legendary Collection and EX Deoxys) but the direction does not. The EX Deoxys line is carrying the Gold Star auction of August 22: a PSA 10 Rayquaza ex re-marked from $35,000 to $85,000 in our engine this week, the largest dollar move in the index to date.
Modern went negative for the first time, and the breadth was the story: only 16 of 112 cards were flat, the fewest yet, with 55 down. Ascended Heroes lost 3.1 percent in the week before its reprint tins, Paldea Evolved and the two 151 sets slipped, and the only strong line was Evolutions, up 6.5 percent after 6.2 percent last week. With the 30th Celebration set three weeks out, the one modern set that reprints Base Set art is behaving like vintage.
Movers
Up: the Rayquaza ex above; a CGC 9 Legendary Collection Pikachu from $12.50 to $27; a PSA 9 BREAKpoint Scizor from $36 to $66. Down: a CGC 9 Neo Genesis Typhlosion from $575 to $331 on a soft comp, a PSA 6 Light Azumarill (Neo Destiny) from $34 to $15, and a CGC 10 Japanese 151 Wartortle from $120 to $40, the kind of modern-slab deflation that shows up first in the lanes nobody watches.
