30th Celebration, Wednesday

Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration releases worldwide on September 16: 199 cards (128 main, 33 secret rares, 30 Classic Collection reprints, 8 energies), every card foil, six cards per pack, a Pikachu in every pack from a set of thirty by different illustrators, and the new Futuristic rare tier by YOSHIROTTEN with Mew ex and Mewtwo ex as its headline cards. Six products launch the same day: the Elite Trainer Box with a Nidorina promo, the Pokemon Center ETB with eleven packs, the Poster Collection with the three legendary birds, the Sylveon ex and Greninja ex boxes, the Tech Sticker Collection and the Knock Out Collection. The set arrives in Pokemon TCG Live tomorrow at 10 a.m. Pacific with the client's largest update of the year, which includes a refreshed Battle Board and the accessibility settings announced in August.

Double Crisis and the LV.X cards

Alt's September 10 auction sold two 2015 Double Crisis EX cards in PSA 10: Team Aqua's Kyogre EX at $348,000 and Team Magma's Groudon EX at $181,314. Double Crisis was a small 2015 mini-set and its two full-art team EX cards have been its chase for a decade, but in the low thousands. The same auction sold a 2009 Rising Rivals Snorlax LV.X in PSA 10 for $253,680, a week after a Great Encounters Palkia LV.X made $204,000 at Fanatics. Four six-figure sales from the 2009-2015 era in a fortnight, after none we can find before August, is the summer's repricing reaching the generation after the EX era. None of these sets are in our baskets yet.

The Chansey

A 1999 First Edition Base Set Chansey in PSA 10 sold for $238,597 on Alt. Chansey is one of the sixteen Base Set holos and one of the least collected, but its First Edition 10 is scarce because the light pink border shows edge wear and the holo is prone to scratching. At $238,597 it is priced like a Base Set holo that is not Charizard has not been priced before, and it suggests the First Edition 10s are being re-marked as a set. The First Edition Charizard has not traded publicly since its $954,800 in February.

Modern, still flat

The modern basket has read flat or negative in all ten Index readings since August 13, and this week 47 of 112 cards fell, the most yet. The two sets built on the previous anniversary, Celebrations and its Classic Collection, both dropped in the week their successor launches. The first post-launch reading is Thursday; the second, which will include the first week of 30th Celebration singles prices, is September 21.
