Pocket's October

Pokemon TCG Pocket opened Ranked Match Season 18 on October 14. The Mega Garchomp ex drop event runs October 15 to 25, a Charmander and Drampa Wonder Pick event runs October 18 to 28, and the next full expansion, more than 100 cards, releases October 29 at 6 p.m. Pacific, which is October 30 for most of the world, in the week of the app's second anniversary. Pocket spotlights have been a reliable leading indicator for the paper cards they feature; Garchomp's paper chase cards are a short list worth watching.

Delta Reign prereleases

Mega Evolution: Delta Reign releases November 6. Prerelease events begin October 24 at participating Play! Pokemon stores, built around Build and Battle boxes that each carry one of four foil promos: Masquerain, Magmortar, Enamorus or Kommo-o. The Pokemon Center opened preorders for booster displays, elite trainer boxes and booster bundles on October 1, and the first wave sold out as fast as it opened, which is the strongest demand signal for a set since Ascended Heroes in January.

The Deck Crafter's Collection

Out October 23: forty tournament-staple cards, Meowth ex among them, with dividers and a booster pack. It is pitched at players who want to build from the two 30th Celebration Battle Decks (Espeon ex and Umbreon ex) that follow on October 30. Staple reprints push down the price of the singles they reprint, which is a feature for players and a footnote for collectors.

A second six-figure Skyridge Gengar

Goldin's 30th Anniversary auction carries a BGS 10 2003 Skyridge Gengar #H9, bid to $122,000 before premium on October 10. On the week of August 24 a PSA 10 of the same card sold for $150,000 on eBay. The crystal-type Gengar is the chase of the last Wizards of the Coast set, and Skyridge is the only Wizards-era set in our vintage basket to post a positive reading in each of the last three issues; it is up 1.4 percent this week.
