The Pack Report Index, September 7: Eight Positive Vintage Readings, Holon Phantoms and Expedition Lead, Modern Flat Again

ADMIN
Sep 7, 20262 min read

This reading is September 7 against August 31.

  • Vintage basket: +0.4% (median of 114 cards; 56 up, 40 flat, 18 down)
  • Modern basket: 0.0% (median of 112 cards; 37 up, 44 flat, 31 down)

How the index is built

Each basket takes twelve active sets and, within each, the ten most-traded cards. Vintage means 1999 to 2007 plus the promo series; modern means 2016 onward. Every card is priced by Rip Station's own engine from public comps, separately for every grader-and-grade lane. A card's weekly change is the average across its lanes; a set's reading is the median of its cards; the basket headline is the median of all cards. A flat reading means "no news," not "no demand."

Reading the week

Eight readings, eight positive, and the breadth keeps improving: 18 cards down is the fewest in any reading, and nine of twelve sets were higher. The leaders rotated again. Holon Phantoms carried the week on a PSA 10 Rayquaza δ that re-marked from $6,999 to $20,100, the set's own Rayquaza catching up with the Gold Star next door. Expedition, which had been one of the quiet sets, added 2.7 percent on the Pichu that doubled last week. Base Set's +1.8 percent is its largest reading in eight, and it came without a headline sale, which is dealers re-marking inventory. Neo Genesis gave back 0.4 percent after the Lugia week, the normal digestion after a step change.

Modern was flat for the sixth time in eight readings; it has still not posted a positive week. The 2021 Classic Collection reprints rose 1.7 percent and Generations 1.3 percent, both sets built on vintage art, and the current chase set, Ascended Heroes, fell for the eighth consecutive reading with its tins now on shelves. Nine days to 30th Celebration.

Movers

Up: the Rayquaza δ above; a PSA 10 EX Deoxys Salamence ex from $11,600 to $24,000; a CGC 9 Evolutions Pikachu from $11.50 to $23. Down: a PSA 10 Skyridge Vaporeon from $28,000 to $18,520 on a soft comp, a CGC 8 Team Rocket Dark Slowbro from $107 to $54, and a CGC 10 Ascended Heroes Team Rocket's Dugtrio from $75 to $43.
