The Pack Report Index tracks two baskets of graded Pokemon cards and compares every card's price, grade by grade, with the same day a week earlier. This is the first published reading: October 12 against October 5.

  • Vintage basket: +4.1% (median of 119 cards; 85 up, 17 flat, 17 down)
  • Modern basket: +0.8% (median of 118 cards; 62 up, 14 flat, 42 down)
  • Market sales volume, 7 days: -15.5% ($24.8M on 47,790 sales, against $29.4M on 55,012 the week before; average sale $520 vs $534)

How the index is built

Each basket takes the twelve most active sets by seven-day dollar volume and, within each set, the ten most-traded cards over the trailing month. Vintage means sets from 1999 to 2007 plus the promo series; modern means 2016 onward. Every card is priced by Rip Station's own engine from public comps, separately for every grader-and-grade lane (PSA 8, CGC 9.5, and so on). A card's weekly change is the average across its lanes; a set's reading is the median of its cards; the basket headline is the median of all cards. We use medians because lanes with no new comps carry forward unchanged, and single comps can throw a lane 100% or more. A flat reading means "no news," not "no demand."

Vintage: the EX era did the work

SetIndex, week over week7-day volumeVolume vs prior week
Base Set+0.9%$980k-12.0%
Legendary Collection+14.0%$840k-16.6%
Skyridge+4.2%$794k-20.2%
XY-P Promos (JP)-0.6%$707k+14.3%
Expedition+7.7%$500k-0.4%
EX Team Rocket Returns+4.3%$417k+2.0%
EX Deoxys+12.1%$376k+47.1%
Neo Destiny+2.2%$359k-33.3%
EX Holon Phantoms+8.3%$352k-41.2%
Team Rocket-0.1%$349k-9.3%
Neo Genesis+7.8%$347k-50.9%
EX Unseen Forces+10.7%$321k-20.8%

Dollar volume across the whole market fell 15.5% week over week while prices on the cards people actually trade ticked up. That combination, thinner tape and firmer prices, is what a market looks like when sellers are not in a hurry. The move was concentrated in the EX era: EX Deoxys, EX Unseen Forces and EX Holon Phantoms all re-marked double digits, Legendary Collection led everything at +14%, and the two most-traded sets, Base Set and Team Rocket, sat still.

Modern: two markets inside one basket

SetIndex, week over week7-day volumeVolume vs prior week
Evolutions+9.3%$98k+19.5%
Ascended Heroes-3.2%$83k-12.7%
Generations+0.6%$69k+142.4%
Celebrations+5.3%$66k+238.7%
Crown Zenith+0.1%$65k+11.3%
Fates Collide+0.9%$57k+140.5%
151-0.9%$50k-24.4%
Paldea Evolved-0.6%$45k-23.6%
BREAKpoint+10.3%$43k+59.7%
Celebrations Classic Collection-2.3%$38k-14.1%
151 (JP)+1.4%$38k-17.8%
Shining Legends+5.1%$37k-8.9%

The modern median was close to flat, but that hides a split. The ten-year-old sets did the work: Evolutions +9.3%, BREAKpoint +10.3%, Celebrations +5.3%, Shining Legends +5.1%. The sets still on shelves drifted lower: Ascended Heroes -3.2%, 151 -0.9%, Paldea Evolved -0.6%, Classic Collection -2.3%. Supply is still arriving for those; it stopped arriving for 2016 a long time ago.

Movers

Up: Pikachu Gold Star (Holon Phantoms) re-marked hard across mid grades, PSA 7 from $2,800 to $11,500 and PSA 3 from $5,000 to $8,300. Rayquaza ex (EX Deoxys) moved on BGS 8.5 ($1,500 to $3,550) and CGC 8 ($1,199 to $2,750). Entei ex (Unseen Forces) PSA 8 went from $1,721 to $3,967. On the modern side, Suicune (BREAKpoint) PSA 10 doubled from $1,000 to $2,100.

Down: Poncho-wearing Pikachu BGS 9.5 slid from $15,000 to $10,100, Shining Mewtwo gave back 17-24% in the PSA 4 and CGC 7 lanes, and Psyduck (Ascended Heroes) CGC 10 fell from $129 to $98.

How to read it

Single comps move single grades. A lane that jumps 300% on one sale is a data point, not a trend; the set line is where the signal lives, and the basket line is where the market lives. We will publish this every issue, same method, so the readings compare across weeks.
