Jazwares president Jeremy Padawer announced on X, as reported on October 9, that a PSA 10 1999 First Edition Base Set Charizard had sold for $1,385,274. He described it as a record for the card and did not name the venue or the buyer. The sale has not appeared in a public auction result we can check, so treat the figure as reported rather than recorded.
Three headline sales in 2026
| When | Price | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| February | $954,800 | Goldin (Logan Paul box-break copy) |
| September 9 | $1,000,953 | eBay |
| Reported October 9 | $1,385,274 | Not disclosed |
The February copy came out of Logan Paul's First Edition box break, which likely carried a premium of its own. September's eBay sale is the cleaner comparison, and the reported price is 38 percent above it. From February to October the card is up about 45 percent. Padawer's post puts the PSA 10 population at 123, which is a large number for a seven-figure card and a small one for the most-collected Pokemon card ever printed.
What it says about the market
The pattern this year has been consistent: the top of English vintage re-prices first, one auction at a time, and the cards around it follow within weeks. August's Rayquaza Gold Star in CGC 10 Pristine cleared $1,020,000; September's EX Team Rocket Returns Torchic Gold Star reached $2.7 million in PSA 10; the First Edition Charizard has now traded twice in five weeks. Our vintage Index is up about 13.6 percent since August 13 on its daily level. Its Wizards-era lines have lagged (Base Set about 6 percent, Legendary Collection about 3, Team Rocket flat), which fits a market where the trophy copy re-prices well before the 8s and 9s.
What to watch
Whether a second PSA 10 trades publicly near this number. A single private figure sets an anchor; a public result at or above it would confirm the level. The next big public test of trophy-card demand is Goldin's 30th Anniversary auction, which closes October 25 with the Gold Trophy Pikachu as its headliner.
